High Water and Hydro Bills
My contention with high water bills and hydro: if we are our own producers of hydro-electric energy, why must we pay extraordinary prices for our own service? When our hydro overhead is sent on the grid to other Canadian cities or even the U.S.A., they pay much less. Niagara Falls should have the lowest rate for water and hydro because we are right next to a renewable, reliable supply, the Falls. Another thing that bothers me after considering that is for what conceivable reason does Niagara Falls buy hydro and water from other cities??? Seemingly, our production is for export only while we pay a fortune to import water and hydro! I believe it’s time that Niagara Falls begins demanding answers, this is a service that we are paying for and we should lobby for better rates. We are the ones who generate the hydro. We need to start improving our infrastructure so water is not wasted. The residents shouldn’t have to pay for someone else’s mistakes. I believe it’s time we look into water meters because I find it very wrong that someone watering their lawn or washing their dishes has to pay the same standard sewage rate while the former is clearly not using the sewage system. This does not make sense; it is a clear money grab.
