Youth

It’s time for the residents of Niagara Falls to start thinking of the youth. It’s unfortunate that the city of Niagara Falls is seriously lacking attractions for the youth. We have the movies and Clifton Hill; Clifton Hill is over-priced and it’s a tourist trap.

If a young man would like to take his girlfriend out to a nice place, a restaurant for example, he has to take her to MacDonald’s because our restaurants target the tourism sector with prices that are through the roof.

The minimum wage jobs that the youth contend with are fine as a first job as they are still acquiring much needed technical and social training. However, when they obtain their education and earn diplomas and degrees and return to our city, what are we offering them? If we look around this city, the majority of jobs come from hotels, casinos and other tourist attractions.

I find it to be a waste of talent and a huge loss for this city because our educated youth are not able to make livelihoods here. Instead they become tourists themselves and visit on occasion.

Our youth needs to have access to community activities so they don't get in trouble with the law. As long as the youth have the opportunity and the respect to be protective members of society, they will not be a burden on our ability to keep the streets safe and our city will see a decrease violent crime.
